How to charge an ATV Battery?

ATVs normally use Sealed Lead Acid batteries so consider a multi-function charger such as the Power Sonic Battery Sitter or a smart charger such as NOCO Genius, which can charge, maintain, test and desulfate batteries.

Choose a charger designed with the correct voltage, chemistry and amperage specifications to compliment your ATV Battery.

Some of the new smart chargers can be set to the desired voltage and will auto detect the correct amperage.

Using one of these types of chargers will help prevent damage to the battery in most cases, extending the life of your battery. It is also recommended that you never use a charger with and output of 1.5 Amps or a charger without an auto off feature or float mechanism.

The bulk of under-performing batteries are caused by incorrect charging, or a faulty electrical system. If you have followed the procedures listed above, and your battery is still not maintaining a charge, please see an experienced ATV mechanic for further evaluation.
