Battery Glossary – ABS Plastic Case

ABS Plastic Case (Aerylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) – a non-conductive high impact resistant thermo-plastic.  This material conveys very good resistance to shock, vibration, heat and chemicals while at the same time being light in weight.  ABS Plastic is used in the construction of many sealed lead acid battery cases, as well as some pure lead battery cases.

ABS is a recyclable plastic and is often re-processed into new cases at the same time as other parts of the battery are extracted for re-use.
